Create the Perfect Minimalist Bedroom

Globalkicau.com – In theory, at least a minimal bedroom is supposed to simply be those items in which one can easily sleep. Unfortunately, in many instances, it turns out to be exactly the opposite. It quickly becomes a space of excessive over-stimulation full of television, posters, and reminders of past external pressures. Creating a minimal bedroom can help remedy that.

Creating the Right Minimalist Bedroom

A minimalist bedroom usually begins with the removal of any excess furniture. If space is at a premium, then cabinets, dressers, chests, and other such furnishings must be stripped bare in order to create open floor space. This also makes way for clean lines, minimalist styling, and an absence of busy, contrasting elements. Once the bare essentials are in, then it’s time to move on to accent colors. Since colors play such a crucial role in the look and feel of a room, they should be chosen carefully. Soft gray is often a great choice for bedrooms that share a wall with the bathroom, as it allows for easy movement.

When selecting a bed frame, the most important aspect is its size. A king size bed is often the most important aspect of a bedroom, so it should always be the largest piece of furniture in the space. If there is not enough room for a large bed, then smaller pieces of furniture, such as side tables or dressers, should match the scale of the bed frame.

Designing a Bedroom with the Best Window Treatments

The next important element when designing a bedroom is the window treatment. Curtains that are either lightweight, such as lace, or are made of a material that allows more natural light into the bedroom are a good choice. When curtains are too heavy or restrictive, they can keep the natural elements of light and air out of a room, making it feel uncomfortable. Additionally, heavy drapes can make the bed feels too cold.

When the walls in a bedroom are bare, then the aesthetic effect of the room will have a starker contrast. As with the bed, the wall treatment is the most important aspect of the minimalist approach. The walls must be painted a neutral color, such as off white or beige. Then, accent colors should be chosen to compliment the walls, such as pale green or soft blue. As walls are bare, lighting should also be minimal, with the focus being on straight, clean lines rather than fancy, vibrantly colored lamps and other accent pieces.

Great Ways to Design Lighting in the Bedroom

Lighting is another great way to create the illusion of space in a bedroom. One of the easiest ways is to simply place a bedside table at one end of the wall, with perhaps some contemporary art and a lamp on the other end. This creates the impression that the walls are both plain and featureless. Another option would be to place a bedside table on one side of a wall, with a contemporary coffee table on the other. This creates the appearance that the walls are lined with furniture. Again, this gives the feeling of space.

A key element of a minimalist bedroom design is the use of simple, basic furniture. Often, the bed frame, dressers, nightstands and even desks will be black, white or beige. By doing so, the bedroom is made more functional, with the bed frame taking up the largest portion of the room and the use of the other furniture helping to accent the black, white or beige color scheme.

Once the bed frame and other necessities are in place, the next step is to choose the colors of the walls, floors and accents. While many people stick to a monochromatic color palette such as black, white or beige, creating a minimalist bedroom often involves mixing in colors. A common color combination for these types of rooms is two or three tones of the main colors, with darker colors usually avoided.
